IN THE GARDEN - WHAT I'M READING NOW |
| If,
like me, you are also an obsessive gardener, you've really got to
read The $64 Tomato by William Alexander. I was falling
over laughing as he travels the oh-so-familiar downward spiral of
obsessive gardening. I really loved this book. If your life has been
consumed by your garden, take heart in the fact that there are others
in the same boat! |
There
are several hosta books that I enjoy. The Color Encyclopedia
of Hosta rocks because it just that with photos with every
single description. You really can't beat that. I don't follow much
of the gardening advice in it but I drool like a slob over the pix! |
My mom gave me
this book and despite the fact that it is not a recent publication
it is chock full of great hosta info. The fact that my mom used it
and then was able to pass it along to me makes it extra special. The
Hosta Book by Paul Aden is a must buy for new hosta
freaks. |

| PLANTS
OTHER THAN HOSTA? |
| Some people like
'em naked, some people like 'em with groundcovers underneath. I tend
to like both but I am always looking for the dramatic hosta & groundcover
combination. One of my favorite combinations is thin leaf, dark, mondo
grass and big leaf, bright green hosta. |
What else should
you use in your garden? Perennials of course! Confused about what
to buy? This is MY FAVORITE reference for perennials.
By grouping them for situations like "drought tolerant"
or "summer blooming" this is a handy book for any gardener.
Mine has been left out in the rain many a time as I plan a new bed. |

| HOW
(AND WHY) DID I CREATE A HOSTA WEBSITE? |
I
created my hosta website because, for me, it's more fun than a blog.
I use this site as a record of the plants in my garden, keeping
track of what I ordered, where I got it from and when I added it
to my garden. I also created it for other gardeners and hosta lovers
to enjoy.
It is relatively
easy to create your own website. If you have an internet connection
in your house, you have a "service provider" (the company
who provides your internet service) and website hosting is typically
included as a part of that service.
If you would
prefer to have your own "domain name" like "myhostagardens.com"
you can purchase one inexpensively. This site is hosted by Doteasy.com
and I purchased my domain name through them as well. Doteasy will
host your basic site for free! If you want to get fancy, they have
a lot of other hosting plans. You could even start your own online
garden store!
